3D Vision-Guided Depalletizing of Magnesium Ingots

Customer Demand

A large automotive parts factory wanted to automate the handling of magnesium ingots. Ingots tightly packed, have reflective surfaces, and may have slight variations in size and shape. These factors presented challenges in terms of accuracy and flexibility in the handling process. So, the customer implemented Mech-Mind's 3D vision system to automate the handling process and add flexibility to their production line.

Mech-Mind AI + 3D Vision Solution

3D Vision-Guided Depalletizing of Magnesium Ingots

The solution:

  1. High-performance 3D camera Mech-Eye LSR L-GL handles ingots with highly reflective surfaces in overlapping stacking patterns.

  2. Support for ingots with slight size variations or deformations.

  3. Mounted in a fixed position, Mech-Eye can capture and process 3D data while the robot is putting the ingots in place, making the whole process more efficient.

  4. It can also adjust the suction cup in real time based on how the ingots are stacked, making the grasping process smart and effective.

The result:

The vision-guided robot can automatically do depalletizing 24/7 without getting tired, significantly improving efficiency.
