3D Vision-Guided Case Depalletizing and Palletizing

Customer Demand

Numerous cases and foam boxes must be palletized and depalletized daily inbound and outbound. The cases are unsealed, and different cases or foam boxes are stacked in four areas on a pallet. Besides, the process has high requirements for speed and stability. The whole process is too complicated for traditional industrial robots to accomplish. Therefore, the customer decided to automate the operation of inbound and outbound with Mech-Mind's AI+3D vision solution.

There are six pallets and three Mech-Eye industrial 3D cameras in total. Each camera is installed on a linear servo and covers two pallets. Mech-Eye industrial 3D camera moves between two pallets to capture images of cases on each pallet for accurate depalletizing and palletizing. 

Advantages:

  2. Mech-Mind 3D vision system can handle complicated scenarios such as dark and white-colored surfaces, tapes, straps, labels, and corrugated cases;

  3. Mech-Mind AI + 3D solution supports single-SKU depalletizing, multi-SKU depalletizing & palletizing, and palletizing of a partial pallet;

  4. 3D vision system can quickly adapt to new cases without previous model registration;

  5. 3D vision-guided robots can work together with AGV, the conveyor belt, WMS, etc.

  6. Intelligent path planning and collision detection algorithms guarantee reliable execution of depalletizing and palletizing; no manual interaction is needed.

Outcomes:

The fully automated production line can run stably without manual intervention.
