Large battery producer

3D Vision-Guided Lead-Acid Battery Depalletizing

Customer Demand

The large weight of the battery (15-30 kg) poses challenges to workers. Any collision in the discharging may cause seal leakage. Automated robot operation is implemented at the factory to ensure safe and efficient production. The dark surface and complex structures make recognition harder for the vision system. There are over ten types of lead-acid batteries. All types are stacked in different patterns, which requires flexible adaptation to various specs.

Mech-Mind AI + 3D Vision Solution

3D Vision-Guided Lead-Acid Battery Depalletizing

The solution:

  1. The Mech-Eye DEEP-GL has a large FOV to cover the large pallet (1250 * 1250 * 1000 mm).

  2. Generate the clear and detailed point clouds of black, reflective lead-acid batteries.

  3. Determine the battery orientation and recognize the pose and position of the batteries.

  4. Map out the optimal multi-pick strategy to pick the maximum batteries in the same orientation with one grasp.

  5. The vision system differentiates the tray and in-between layers to ensure the right picking after the robot depalletizes the whole pallet.

  6. One camera works for two workstations.

  7. Adaption to over ten battery specs.

The result:

  • Cycle time:  ≤ 4 s

  • Recognition success rate: ≥ 99.7%

  • Higher productivity: 2,000 pcs/day processed at each workstation.
